School Days in Lakeshore

Where: Begin at N.A. MacEachern (580 Rolling Hills Dr), end at Sir Edgar Bauer (660 Glen Forrest Blvd)

Walk Leaders: Jane Mitchell (Regional Councillor) and Angela Vieth (Waterloo Councillor)

Three suburban schools and an old country schoolhouse are highlighted. N.A. MacEachern, Cedarbrae and Sir Edgar Bauer have taught generations of students in a walkable suburb that includes churches, forest and stores. The Bearinger schoolhouse is now gone from farm kids to a bombing, it has a fascinating story.

 

Green Connections

Explore the green belts running through the Beechwood neighbourhood, and reflect on how they connect people and nature.

We will be walkin mostly on stonedust pathways, which could be muddy depending on the weather.

What’s happening to Uptown Waterloo?

Where: Begin and end at Waterloo’s first public square (King and William, beside Your Neighbourhood Credit Union)

Walk leaders Phil Elsworthy and Kae Elgie will look at what’s happening to the Waterloo city core as a consequence — or unintended consequence — of the LRT and the intensification drive. They will pose the question: Is there a reason for Uptown Waterloo to still exist?

Stories from Berlin During the Great War

One hundred years ago, the Great War ended, an event that greatly impacted the lives of Berliners. Learn about World War One through a wide range of stories and people: those who fought bravely and those who bravely refused to fight; some who volunteered and others forced to enlist; as well as the many women who supported the war on the ‘home front.’ Walk through Berlin’s tumultuous four years of war and engage with some lesser-known people and stories from Kitchener’s past.
